We are a group of enthusiasts based at Bruntingthorpe airfield Near Leicester who are dedicated to maintaining two of the last few remaining English Electric Lightning aircraft in fully functional condition.
The restoration of XS456 is not just about bringing an old aircraft back to life; it's about preserving a piece of aviation history. The Lightning represents a significant period in military aviation and technological advancement
The Anglo American Lightning Organisation (AALO) was founded in 1997 by Andrew Brodie, Jon Roth, Phil Wallis, and Max Waldron. For a number of years we have been working towards returning to flight an English Electric Lightning T.5, XS422.
This is the home of arguably the most well-known of all the lightning aircraft ever built, XN728. Or as most people know her, the 'A1 Lightning' formerly at Balderton, Newark.
With the retirement of the Lightning in April 1988 many aircraft found their way into preservation, one of them being T.5 XS420. The purpose of this website is to document the history and subsequent preservation of XS420 and many other aspects of the Lightning in general.
Today XS420, resides within the grounds of Farnborough Air Sciences Trust.
Website solely dedicated to former pilots, and run by Ed Durham, a former pilot himself. Lots of very interesting information can also be found on the site.
When first created in 1994, the reason was purely that there were plenty of American aircraft on the web, but very little about British types. From the initial beginnings of simply showing off a few photos of each type it's been expanded so that each type has a history page, sometimes a memories page, a list of surviving examples, and a picture gallery
This website has been created by English Electric Lightning enthusiasts with the aim of centralising the most useful and definitive web-based information available. By visiting this page you should easily be able to find just about anything you might want to know about the Lightning.
